- Colorado College, the University of New Mexico, and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress sponsored the second annual American Folklife Center field school, titled "Documenting Traditional Culture: an Introductory Field School," at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado in July 1995. The focus of the fieldwork was seasonal farmers' markets in the Colorado Springs area. Materials in this collection were created primarily through research conducted by the 12 field school participants: Troy Fernandez, Bridget Gallegos, Rudy Guglielmo, Su Hudson, Emily Kodama, Enrique Lamadrid, Marisa Nelson, Donna Osborn, Eulala Pegram, Tomás Peña, Mary Ross, Xochitl Shuru, and by American Folklife Center staff, David A. Taylor.

Summary
- The collection consists of color slides documenting several farmers' markets; sound cassettes of interviews with farmers and vendors at farmers' markets in Colorado Springs, with one videotape of a vendor; and interviews conducted at farms in or near Pueblo, Colorado City, Fort Collins, Security, Rye, Platteville, and Colorado Springs. Researchers interviewed Italian American family farmers, Mexican migrant workers, women farmers, and others on the subjects of farming, marketing, irrigation, water rights, and family histories. Manuscripts and ephemera in the collection include field notes, recording logs, photograph logs, and administrative files; plus a few recipes, a local seed catalog, a package of seeds, and labels for local food specialities.
