Scope: Collection contains primarily Russian recordings, many rare, mostly dating from the pre-revolutionary period between 1899 and 1917, but including pre-LP recordings up to the mid-1950's. Includes opera excerpts, art songs, liturgical music, patriotic songs, folk music, and popular music. Among the earliest record labels are Berliner, Gramophone, Gramophone and Typewriter, USSR, Beka, and early PatheĢ. Collection also includes 144 rare books and record catalogs dealing with the contents of the collection, and 114 photographs of Russian opera performers.
