Encyc. of Ukraine: v. 5, p. 299 (Tsarychanka [Caryčanka]; a town on the Orel River and raion center in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. It originated in 1604 as a Cossack khutir and was settled by Uman Cossacks in 1673. A few years later it became a company center of Poltava Regiment. It was destroyed by Tatars in 1696, but it revived and in 1765 became part of New Russia Gubernia. From 1802 to 1923 it belonged to the Poltava Gubernia)
