Dictionary of African Biography, accessed March 24, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Seid, Joseph Brahim; folklorist, autobiographer/ memoirist, government official; born 1927 in Wadai, Abeche, Chad; attended classes at the local Catholic mission in the southern Chadian town of Sarh (Fort-Archambault), with a French priest (1938-1939); decided to switch from the Islamic faith of his family to Roman Catholicism; helped to establish the small Mutuelle Amicale Tchadienne political party (1945); this conservative group became the Union Démocratique Tchadienne (UDT) party; wrote collection of folktales, “Au Tchad sous les étoiles” (1962); published “Un enfant du Tchad”, an autobiographical account of his life (1967); served as minister of justice for president François Tombalbaye's increasingly brutal regime (1966-1975); died 1980 in Chad)
