Bio. dir. of U.S. Congress online, Feb. 28, 2008 (Carter, Timothy Jarvis; Representative from Maine; born in Bethel, in the Maine district of Massachusetts, Aug. 18, 1800; attended the town schools of Bethel; studied law at Northampton, Mass., was admitted to the bar in 1826 and commenced practice in Rumford, Oxford County, Me.; moved to Paris, Oxford County, Me., in 1827 and continued the practice of law; secretary of the State senate of Maine in 1833; county attorney 1833-1837; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress and served from Sept. 4, 1837, until his death in Washington, D.C., Mar. 14, 1838; interment in the Congressional Cemetery)
