Besides the information that we can glean from his writings, only a few scattered immigration and census records trace his passage through the U.S. Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, he arrived in Seattle, Wash. at the age of 17 in the summer of 1918. In 1920, he resided in a boarding house in Los Angeles and listed his occupation as "railroad worker." After 1928, the documentary trail about Nagahara goes cold. There is no evidence that he ever married, had children, owned a business, or bought or leased property in the U.S. He does not appear in the 1930 census, nor does his name appear in the War Relocation Authority records of World War II internees. It is not yet known if he ever returned to Japan, and it has yet to be determined when and where he died; or where his final resting place might be)
