Oxford classical dictionary, 2003: p. 317-318 (Chares of Mytilene, chamberlain (eisangeleus) of Alexander the Great. Brill's New Pauly, ©2003: v. 3, p. 194: (Chares [2]: From Mytilene; at least from 327 BC under Alexander he was entrusted after the Persian manner and with the conduct of audiences, and after Alexander's death wrote a book entitled "Stories of Alexander," in which he recounted anecdotes from life at court and also on campaign, as e.g. the proskynesis dispute, the marriages at Susa, the death of Calanus. He usually emphasizes luxury, feasts and drinking, but the extracts in Athenaeus also offer items of natural history ... He is to be regarded as an anecdotalist, not a historian)
