Fischer Verlag, Berlin; W. Goldmann, Leipzig; and R.M. Rohrer, Brno; after the war's outbreak, he lived again from 1941 to 1943 in Brno [then in the German-occupied Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia], because of his wife's Jewish origin; conscripted and severely wounded in 1944; in 1945, the American military government entrusted him with the founding of a Wiesbaden branch of the [Leipzig organization] Börsenverein der Deutschen Buchhändler and he was granted a license for the West German edition of the Börsenblatt für den deutschen Buchhandel; through his initiative the Börsenverein was reorganized and relocated to Frankfurt; he contributed to the founding of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek in Frankfurt as a counterpart to the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig, and to the founding of a Frankfurt branch of Suhrkamp Verlag; operated his own publishing firm, 1948-1972)
