Information from 678 converted Dec. 17, 2014 (Ph.D.) Univ. of Colorado archives, March 7, 2016 (Keith Roberts Porter, one of the leading cell biologists of the twentieth century, was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on June 11, 1912. In 1934, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Acadia University, he earned Master's and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University and joined the Rockefeller Institute in 1939. He joined the University of Colorado in 1968 and presided over the creation of the new department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. In 1984, Porter went to the University of Maryland, where he stayed until 1987. His final post was at the University of Pennsylvania. Porter died in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in 1997.)
