The Oxford companion to law, 1980: p. 197 (Central Criminal Court was constituted in 1834, superseding the sessions long held at the Old Bailey under special commissions of gaol delivery for Newgate and of oyer and terminer for London and Middlesex; in practice it superseded quarter sessions for London and Southwark; now the sitting of the Crown Court for London; has jurisdiction to try crimes committed within Greater London, any offences committed on high seas or elsewhere within jurisdiction of Admiral of England, and also homicides of and by persons subject to military law where Q.B.D. so orders) p. 322 (Crown Court incorporates the Central Criminal Court, though that has been retained in name in that when Crown Court sits in London it is known as Central Criminal Court)
