Worked in Kiev and Katerynoslav and became editor of Ukrainian Shevchenko Society in Kiev. After the 1917 revolution he became the Russian Provisional Govt. Commissar of Galicia and Bukovyna, then Commissar of Chernihiv Gubernia. He emigrated n 1919 and remained an important figure in the emigre hetmanite movement. As an emigre he held several academic positions in Europe and Canada. In 1945-51 he was the first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has authored more than a thousand works)
