ha-Entsiḳ. ha-ʻIvrit, 1978: v. 31, col. 629-630 ((ha-)Shomer ha-tsaʻir, histadrut noʻar Tsiyonit-sotsyalit which began in 1916 in Vienna as a merger between Tseʻire Tsiyon, a group of Jewish students in Galicia and youth scouts who called themselves ha-Shomer. It later founded branches in various European and American cities; in 1924 it convened its first international conference in Danzig and made Warsaw the headquarters of the movement. In 1920 some of its members from Poland and Galicia founded in Palestine the first of many autonomous kibbutzim which formed a federation known as ha-Ḳibuts ha-artsi ha-shomer ha-tsaʻir)
