Biography/History note | Located in Lexington, KY, the university was established in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky University (an institution established in 1836 and now called Translyvania College). The connection between the two institutions was dissolved in 1878. it was then established as a separate institution and incorporated in 1880 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky. The name changed in March, 1908 to State University. In March, 1916 it was changed again to University of Kentucky. |
