New York times, 22 Oct. 2021: in an obituary on page A24 (Jerry Pinkney, born Dec. 22, 1939 in Philadelphia [Pa.], died Wednesday [Oct. 20] in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. (lived in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.), aged 81; his evocative illustrations won acclaim in bringing more than 100 children's books to life, many with Black characters or images of Black history and culture; award-winning illustrator and one of America's great watercolorists; met Gloria Jean Maultsby in high school, later married her and illustrated several of her books)
