LC/NAF, Apr. 8, 2009 665 note (The French West African territories of French Sudan and Senegal became autonomous within the French Community in Nov. 1958 as the République soudanaise (with its capital at Bamako) and the État du Sénégal (later, according to its constitution of 1959, République du Sénégal). In Apr. 1959 the two republics, each continuing its own government, became the member states of the Federation of Mali. The Federation was dissolved in Aug. 1960 when Senegal withdrew and declared its independence. In Sept. 1960 the République soudanaise withdrew from the French Community and changed its name to République du Mali)
