Prominent Ukrainian writer, superb polemicist and pamphleteer, and publicist of the Ukrainian cultural renaissance of the 1920s. His real name was Mykola Fitilev. By the middle of the 1920's his advocation of a Ukraine both independent and culturally aligned toward Europe and the West gradually brought him condemnation and persecution from Stalin. He commited suicide in 1933)
