English Wikipedia, viewed May 13, 2021 (Newcastle University; its legal name is The University of Newcastle upon Tyne; public research university located in Newcastle upon Tyne in the northeast of England; has its origins in the School of Medicine and Surgery established in Newcastle upon Tyne in October, 1834; in June, 1851, the School split into the Newcastle College of Medicine, which by 1852 was formally linked to the University of Durham, and the Newcastle upon Tyne College of Medicine and Practical Science; the two colleges amalgamated in 1857 and were renamed as the University of Durham College of Medicine in 1870; the College of Physical Science was founded in 1871; the two colleges merged to form King's College, Durham in 1934; became independent from Durham University and was established as the University of Newcastle upon Tyne on 1 August 1963)
