Grosses Sängerlexikon, via RILM music encyclopedias, viewed November 12, 2019 (Kelly, Michael; born December 25, 1762, Dublin, died October 9, 1826, Margate (Kent); tenor and impresario; trained in London under Morland and Michael Arne, further training by the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini; in 1779 he made his debut in Dublin, then went to Naples for more study at the Conservatory of Santa Maria di Loreto under F. Fenaroli and G. Aprile; debuted in Naples in 1781 (under the name Signor Ochelli); joined the Theater in the Hofburg in Vienna in 1783; on May 1, 1786 sang in their premiere of Le Nozze di Figaro in the roles of Basilio and Don Curzio under the baton of Mozart himself; in 1787 he went to London where he worked first at the Drury Lane Theater, then at the King's Theater; between 1802 and 1811, he worked as an independent theater entrepreneur in Dublin, but this business collapsed; temporarily ran a wine tavern and, like his father, a wine shop, but left Dublin in October 1811; a prolific composer from 1789, also published a significant memoir in 1826 (Reminiscenses))
