Lawrence died of Alzheimer's on November 27, 2003 in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada; R.D. Lawrence Place was built by students in Fleming College's Sustainable Building Program in 2007 at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre, Minden, ON, Canada; the building opened as a literary centre and museum dedicated to R.D. Lawrence on Earth Day, April 22, 2008; R.D. Lawrence Place features a collection of R.D.
