On July 6, 1964, Nyasaland was granted independence and name changed to Malawi; on Oct. 24, 1964, Northern Rhodesia was granted independence and name changed to Zambia. Following the change of name of Northern Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia adopted the name Rhodesia and, on April 18, 1980, the name Zimbabwe)
