Wikipedia, September 25, 2020 (Lew Wallace; Lewis Wallace (April 10, 1827-February 15, 1905) was an American lawyer, Union general in the American Civil War, governor of the New Mexico Territory, politician, diplomat, and author from Indiana. On May 19, 1881, Wallace was appointed U.S. Minister to the Ottoman Empire in Constantinople. He resigned from the U.S. diplomatic service on March 4, 1885. Born on April 10, 1827, in Brookville, Indiana; Wallace died at home in Crawfordsville, on February 15, 1905)
