Ossorio; Alfonso Angel Yangeo Ossorio; Filipino American abstract expressionist artist who was born in Manila in 1916 to wealthy Filipino parents from the province of Negros Occidental; his heritage was Hispanic, Filipino, and Chinese; between ages of eight and thirteen, attended school in England; at age fourteen, moved to the United States; studied at Harvard, 1934 to 1938 and continued studies at Rhode Island School of Design; became an American citizen in 1933; served as a medical illustrator in the United States Army during World War II; his early work was surrealist; in 1951 purchased a 60-acre estate in East Hampton and lived there for more than forty years; in the 1950s created assemblages; died in New York City in 1990)
