Wikipedia, March 8, 2019 (Rainilaiarivony; born 30 January 1828, Ilafy, Madagascar; died 17 July 1896, Algiers; in office 14 July 1864 - 14 October 1895; Malagasy politician who served as the Prime Minister of Madagascar from 1864 to 1895; Madagascar's longest-serving prime minister; married three queens in succession: Rasoherina, Ranavalona II, and Ranavalona III; sought to modernize state administration, in order to protect Madagascar against designs of the British and French colonial empires; his diplomatic skills and military acumen preserved his country's sovereignty until a French column captured the royal palace in September 1895; though the French held him in high esteem, he was deposed and exiled [with Queen Ranavalona III] to French Algeria, where he died less than a year later)
