Found inAlabama counties website, Dec. 10, 2005 (Monroe County was created by the Mississippi Territory governor, David Holmes, on 1815 June 29. It comprised all the Creek Indian lands ceded by the Treaty of Fort Jackson. It was reduced in size by the creation of the Alabama counties of Montgomery, Conecuh, and Wilcox; Conecuh County was created by the Alabama Territorial legislature on 1818 Feb. 13, from part of Monroe County; Butler County was created by the first session of the Alabama legislature on 1819 Dec. 13, from parts of Monroe and Conecuh Counties)
