New York times, 28 Apr. 2020 (Gene Deitch; born Eugene Merrill Deitch Aug. 8, 1924 in Chicago [Ill.], died Apr. 16, in Prague [Czech Republic] where he lived, aged 95; an Oscar-winning animator who created the early television cartoon, "Tom Terrific" and went on to make countless cartoons and film versions of popular children's books for more than a half-century; following three years managing Terrytoons for CBS, Mr. Deitch opened his own animation studio in 1958; after working on his Oscar-winning film, "Munro" in Prague with Rembrandt Films, Deitch moved there in 1961; among his earliest jobs in Prague was to create new entries of the "Tom and Jerry" series of cat-and-mouse cartoons, popular in the 1940s and 1950s for MGM)
