Ukr. rad. ent︠s︡ykl.: v. 2, p. 197 (Verkhnʹodniprovsʹk; city in Dnipropetrovsʹka oblastʹ. Established at the end of the 16th cent. as a Zaporozhian Cossack winter settlement. In 1780 the settlement was known as the Sloboda Hryhorivka [no publs. in LC data base], and in 1785 it was renamed Novohryhorivka [no publs. in LC data base]. In 1806 the city received its permanent name of Verkhnʹodniprovsʹk. In Jan. 1918 Soviet power was established there)
Rad. ent︠s︡ykl. istoriï Ukraïny, 1969- : v. 1, p. 266-267 (Verkhnʹodniprovsʹk was established as a Zaporozhian Cossack winter quarters in 1780. In 1806 Verkhnʹodniprovsʹk was part of the Katerynoslavsʹka hubernii︠a︡. Soviet authority was established there on 01-04-1918. From 1925 Verkhnʹodniprovsʹk was part of the Katerynoslavsʹkyĭ (from 1926 the Dnipropetrovsʹkyĭ) okruh. From 1926 it has been part of the Dnipropetrovsʹka oblastʹ)
