An amendment to the charter of Collège Saint-Joseph changed its name to Université du Collège Saint-Joseph, on March 18, 1898. In 1963, following the report of the Royal Commission on Higher Education in New Brunswick, Saint Joseph's University relinquished its university prerogatives, reverted to its college title and became affiliated with the new Université de Moncton.
