Wikipedia, January 27, 2015 (Franz Dirlmeier; born November 22, 1904 in Donauwörth; died June 9, 1977 in Vathy on Ithaka; German classical scholar; Franz Dirlmeier studied classical philology at the University of Munich; after receiving his doctorate, he worked from 1931 to 1934 as a lecturer at the University of Belgrade; he later received a teaching position at the University of Munich; he joined the University of Mainz in the winter semester of 1945/1946 as a research assistant; in 1946 he was appointed professor and Chair of Classical Philology; in 1951 he joined the faculty of the University of Würzburg and in 1959 the University of Heidelberg, where he remained until his retirement in 1970; he spent his retirement with his wife on the Greek island of Ithaka, where he died in the summer of 1977; Franz Dirlmeier concentrated his research especially on the three ethical writings of Aristotle: the Eudemian Ethics , the Nicomachean Ethics and the Magna Moralia)
