Emanuel Leutze, c2016: title page (Emanuel Leutze) chronology of the artist's life (Emanuel Gottlob Leutze; artist known mainly for paintings of historical subjects, especially Washington crossing the Delaware; born May 24, 1816, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany; 1825, immigrated with his family to Philadelphia, Pa., where he began his artistic training in 1834; spent most of the 1840s and 1850s in Europe, mainly in Düsseldorf, Germany, continuing artistic training and career; 1859, returned to the United States where he had studios in New York, N.Y., and Washington, D.C.; died July 18, 1868, Washington, D.C.)
