Two keyboard concertos, c1991: title page (Giovanni Benedetto Platti) preface (ca. 1690-1763. His origins and birthdate have never been demonstrated conclusively. The composer's death certificate, dated January 11, 1763, records his age as 64, implying a birthdate of 1698 or 1699, but this has been disputed by Fausto Torrefranca, who settled on a probable date of about 1690. A letter discovered by Mario Fabbri from Domenico Palafuti to Giovanni Battista Martini, dated October 7, 1764, identifies Platti as a Paduan, and also claims that he finished composing a Miserere on his fortieth birthday, on July 9, 1737; therefore Fabri concluded that Platti was born on July 9, 1697. His name is reported in a list of members of the Venetian instrumentalist's guild (the arte de sonadori), a document that Eleanor Selfridge-Field believed to date from 1715; another membership list of April 18, 1711, recording the taxes paid by members of the arte de sonadori to gain exemption from military service, records Platti as a new member, an indication that he was about twenty years old at that time. The membership lists cannot be reconciled with the Palafuti letter, as Platti would not likely have been admitted to the guild or considered for military service at age thirteen; therefore Torrefranca's date is apparently correct. After an indeterminate period of activity in Venice, Platti was at the episcopal court of Würzburg from 1722 until his death in 1763.)
