Stokes, [2024]: CIP galley (Maurice Stokes was born in 1933, grew up in Pittsburgh and led Westinghouse High School to the state championship his senior year. On March 12, 1958, Stokes collided with an opponent, fell hard, and hit his head on the floor. Despite being knocked out for 3 minutes, Stokes returned to play in that game. Three days later, he went into a coma and suffered paralysis from the neck down. Doctors determined the paralysis was caused by post-traumatic encephalopathy caused by the fall he had suffered in the Minneapolis game. In 1970, Maurice Stokes suffered a heart attack and died at the age of thirty-six. Maurice Stokes changed basketball, clearing the way for countless great big men and Black athletes. He also changed basketball by highlighting the need for the NBA to develop medical and retirement benefits for the players)
