Dictionary of African Biography, accessed June 08, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Boudjedra, Rachid; fiction writer; born in 1941 in AïnBeïda, Algeria; received philosophy degree at the Sorbonne in Paris (1967-1969); was involved in the Algerian War of Independence as representative of the Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) (1959); released the book FIS de la haine, a violent diatribe against political Islamism (1992); developed a verbally excessive writing style in the Nouveau roman; depicted the explicitness of civil war in Les Funérailles (The Funeral) (2003); more recent texts, include Hôtel Saint Georges and Les Figuiers de Barbarie (2007, 2010); wrote poems, collected in Pour ne plus rêver (In Order Not to Dream) and Greffe (Graft), and a short play, Mines de rien (All Casually) (1965, 1985, 1995); released dozens of novels (1970's-2000's); notable nonfiction texts include Journal Palestinien (Palestinian Journal), Lettres Algériennes (Algerian Letters), and Peindre l'Orient (To Paint the Orient) (1973, 1995, 1996); screenplay author for the film Chroniques des années de braise, which was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (1975))
