Special noteIndian Territory was set apart by Congress in 1834 for the use of the Five Civilized Tribes. Its boundaries were reduced from time to time by the addition of its land to existing states or by the organization of new territories. In 1905 a constitution was drawn up requesting admission to the Union as the State of Sequoyah; however, in 1906 it was united with the Territory of Oklahoma to be admitted as the State of Oklahoma in 1907
