Dictionnaire de biographie française, t. 13, 1975 (Fenouillot de Falbaire de Quingey, Charles-Georges; dramatic author; born 7/16/1727, Salins, where his father was director of the salt works; studied at Collège Louis-le-Grand; intended for the church and received the tonsure, but, under the name abbé Fenouillot, he entered financial administration instead of priesthood; undertook major repairs to the salt works, but contract was terminated in 1771 on grounds of negligence; author of L'honnête criminel (1767), a great success that was often reprinted and translated into German, Italian and Dutch; in 1772, he obtained the barony of Quingey, from which he took the name, and replaced his father as director of the salt works; in 1782, he became inspector general of the Salines de l'est, which office was suppressed in 1787; continued to write for the theater; died in Sainte-Menehould, on Oct. 28, 1800, according to some, or in May 1801, according to others)
