Biography/History noteSaint Barthelemy, also called Saint Bart's, an island of the Lesser Antilles in the eastern Caribbean Sea, became an overseas collectivity of France in 2007. Prior to then, it was a commune and, together with Saint-Martin, an arrondissement of the French overseas département of Guadeloupe.

Wikipedia, July 29, 2008 (Saint Barthélemy (French: Saint-Barthélemy), officially the Collectivity of Saint Barthélemy (French: Collectivité de Saint-Barthélemy), is an overseas collectivity of France. Also known as Saint Barth in French, or St. Barts in English, the collectivity is one of the four territories among the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, and is the only one to have historically been a Swedish colony; in 2003, the population voted in favour of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France. On 7 Feb. 2007, the French Parliament passed a bill granting COM status to both Saint Barthélemy and neighbouring Saint Martin. The new status took effect on 22 Feb. 2007)

Saint Barthélemy was for many years a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas region and department of France. In 2003, the island voted in favour of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France.
