Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: pages 13-14 ("Henry Tureman Allen", career Army officer, born in Sharpsburg, Kentucky on April 13, 1859. Attended Peeks Mill Military Academy and graduated from Georgetown College in 1878 and from West Point in 1882. He was sent to Alaska, which he explored and mapped in 1885. From 1888-1890 was an instructor at West Point, then served as an attache in St. Petersburg (1890-1895) and in Berlin (1895-1897). Served in Spanish-American War and in World War I. Retired from the Army April 13, 1923. Lived in Washington, D.C. where he wrote two books about his military service. Died August 29, 1930 in Buena Vista Springs, Pennsylvania.)
