Second edition, 2003: volume 10, page 918 (Carlo Passaglia; born May 2, 1812, in Lucca; died March 12, 1887, in Turin; Italian theologian and priest; entered the Jesuit order in 1827, but left the order in 1859; he wrote Il pontefice ed il principe in 1860; he served as a deputy to the Italian parliament in 1863 and 1864; because of his support for Italian unification, he had to flee Rome, obtaining refuge in Turin, where he was appointed professor of philosophy at the University of Turin; Pope Pius IX suspended him from the priesthood in 1862; he was editor of the weekly Il mediatore (1862 to 1866) and the daily La pace (1863 to 1864); he was reconciled to the Church shortly before his death in 1887)
