It grew from informal associations among studio musicians in New York who had toured together and played in jam sessions; the other original members were the tenor saxophonist Mike Brecker, the keyboard player Don Grolnick, the double bass player Eddie Gomez, and the drummer Peter Erskine. The group toured Japan, where it recorded three albums.
