African American National Biography, accessed January 30, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Glover, Danny; stage / screen actor, television actor; born 22 July 1947 in San Francisco, California, United States; became a full-time student in 1967 at San Francisco State University (SFSU) and worked in the Black Panther Party's breakfast program; was chairman of the Art and Cultural Committee of the Black Student Union. His first acting role was in Amiri Baraka's play Pappa's Daughter, staged at SFSU (1967); film debut in Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood (1979); lead role in the Off-Broadway play Blood Knot (1980); role in Broadway production of Master Harold, and the Boys; achieved national stardom with Places in the Heart (1984); consolidated fame with all four Lethal Weapon films (1987-1998); starred in To Sleep with Anger (1990); multiple awards for roles in Freedom Song; produced films, including, Buffalo Soldiers, 3 A.M., and Good Fences (1997, 2001, 2003); honors include, Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor (1990); NAACP Image Awards (2000); Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Pan African Film Festival and from Amnesty International (2003,2006); nominated for four Emmy Awards, MTV Movie Awards, and Black Reel Awards, among othersl was appointed the first Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme.)
