Spanish Wikipedia, viewed July 29, 2020 (Juan de Palafox; Juan de Palafox y Mendoza; born June 24, 1600, in Fitero (Navarra, Spain); died October 1, 1659, in Ciudad de Osma, Spain; Spanish bishop and colonial administrator; in 1639, he was named bishop of Tlaxcala, in the archdiocese of Puebla de los Angeles, Mexico, and took up his post there in 1640; he served as advisor to the Consejo Real de Indias from 1633 to 1653; in 1642, he served briefly as Viceroy of New Spain; he returned to Spain in 1653, where he was named bishop of Osma; he was beatified on June 5, 2011)
