Layton; Edwin Thomas Layton was a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy, who is most noted for his work as a cryptanalyst during World War II; born April 7, 1903 in Nauvoo, Illinois; he attended the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland and graduated in 1924; after retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1959 he went to work for the Northrop Corporation as Director of Far East Operations in Tokyo, Japan, 1959 to 1963, he retired from Northrop in 1964 and moved to Carmel, California, where he died on April 12, 1984; his book, And I Was There: Pearl Harbor and Midway-- Breaking the Secrets was written with co-authors Roger Pineau and John Costello and was published in 1985, the year after Layton died)
