Z︠H︡ytomyrsʹka oblastʹ, 1973: p. 536-542 (Kopyshche, a town in Olevsʹkyĭ raĭon. Neolithic settlements there date back to the 4th cent. B.C. Kopyshche itself was first mentioned in historical documents of 1598 when it was a village in the Ovrut︠s︡ʹkyĭ povit of the Kyïvsʹke voi︠e︡vodstvo. During the wars of 1648-1654 the town was devastated, and after the Andrusiv Treaty of 1650 the town was ceeded to Poland. In 1793 as part of Right-Bank Ukraine Kopyshche was reunited with Russia. By 1797 it was part of the Ovrut︠s︡ʹkyĭ povit of the Volynsʹka hubernii︠a︡. In Jan. 1918 Soviet rule was established, but in Feb. 1918 the town was occupied by Austro-Hungarian troops. In Spring of 1919 the town was liberated by the Red Army. In April 1920 the town was seized by Poland but in July of that year it was again liberated by the Red Army. During July 1943 the German Army destroyed many of Kopyshche's buildings and massacred 2,887 of its inhabitants. After the war the city was gradually rebuilt)
