Meier, Matt S. Mexican American biographies, 1988: page 80-81 (José Manuel Gallegos, 1815-1875, priest, political leader. Ordained a priest in 1840, he served in San Juan, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe. Served in the Assembly in the Nuevo México legislature from 1843 to 1846, then elected as a Democrat in 1851 to the first Territorial Council. Excommunicated in the 1850s and elected a territorial delegate to the U.S. Congress in 1853 until 1857, and again 1871-1873. Died in Santa Fe.)
