Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, viewed online September 26, 2022: YORKTOWN (CV 10) (The fourth Yorktown (CV-10) was laid down on 1 December 1941 at Newport News, Va., by the Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. as Bon Homme Richard; renamed Yorktown on 26 September 1942; launched on 21 January 1943, sponsored by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt; and commissioned on 15 April 1943 at the Norfolk Navy Yard; In June of 1952, she was ordered reactivated; On 15 December 1952, she was placed in commission, in reserve, at Bremerton; On 1 September [1957], her home port was changed from Alameda to Long Beach, and she was reclassified an antisubmarine warfare (ASW) aircraft carrier with the new designation CVS-10; On 27 June 1970, Yorktown was decommissioned at Philadelphia, Pa.; her name was struck from the Navy list on 1 June 1973)
