Tansi Solidarity Prayer Movement, December 1988: pages 2-8 (born in 1903 in village of Igboezunu; named Iwegbunam in naming ceremony a few days after birth; at age 6, in 1909, Iwene was sent to St. Joseph's Catholic School in Aguleri Christian village; Iwene was baptised on 7 January 1912, took the Christian name Michael; took First School Leaving Certificate in 1919, employed to teach in the same school; in 1922 he was transferred to Holy Trinity School Onitsha, taught there for 2 years; in 1929 he was transferred back to St. Joseph's Catholic School, Aguleri, as headmaster; his desire to be a priest manifested in 1922; admitted to St. Paul's Seminary, Igbariam, in 1925; the seminary was closed in 1928 and the seminarians transferred to the new St. Charles Training College, Onitsha, where Michael was employed to teach; after 12 years at St. Paul's Seminary he was ordained in 1937; Father Michael Tansi was appointed to Nnewi for 2 years, then to open the new Parish of Dunukofia in 1940; first Parish Priest of Akpu-Ajalli, 1945; final appointment was to Aguleri, his own town, in 1949; in April 1950 Father Tansi left Nigeria with the National Pilgrimage Team in Rome, to the Monastery of Mount Saint Bernard in Coalville, Leicester, England; entered the Cistercian Community as a Postulant on July 3, 1950; after 3 years as an oblate he received the Novice Habit February 1953, then took the name Father Cyprian Tansi; on December 8, 1956 he was released from the Missionary Oath and took his vows at Mount St. Bernard, ordained a Diocesan Priest of the Archdiocese of Onitsha; died of thrombosis on January 20, 1964 at Leicester Royal Infirmary, age 61; the process of his canonisation was officially opened in The Archdiocese of Onitsha on January 20, 1986; on September 12, 1986 his remains were exhumed in the cemetery of Mt. St. Bernard Abbey and flown to Nigeria, and reintered on October 17 at the priests' cemetery at Holy trinity Cathedral compound Onitsha)
