Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 683 (Thomas Satterwhite Noble, artist and educator, born in Lexington, Ky. on May 29, 1835. Studied painting in Louisville in 1852 with Samuel Woodson Price, then between 1856 and 1859 he lived in Paris, France where he studied under Thomas Couture. Served in the Confederate Army. Appointed as the first principal of the McMicken School of Design in 1869 which in 1887 became the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Studied in Bavaria at the Munich Academy during a two year leave of absence 1881-1883. Retired in 1904 and died in New York City on April 27, 1907.)
