Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 925 (Thomas Walker, physician and explorer, born January 25, 1715 in King and Queen County, Virginia. Educated at the College of William and Mary, then practiced medicine in Fredericksburg and lived in Albemarle County. Was a land speculator and led the first organized English expedition on record through Cumberland Gap ino Kentucky on April 13, 1750, naming the gap and the Cumberland River. Served several terms in the Virginia House of Burgesses, beginning in 1752. Died at his home in Albemarle County, November 9, 1794.)
