Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: pages 738-739 (William Preston, politician and soldier, graduated from Yale in 1835 and an LL.B. from Harvard in 1838. Established a sucessful law practice in Louisville, then launced his political career as a Whig. Served in the Kentucky House in 1851 and in 1868-1869 and the state senate in 1852. In September 1852 he was elected to fill the vacant U.S.congressional seat of Humphrey Marshall, where he served December 6, 1852, to March 3, 1855 and switched his allegiance to the Democratic Party.)
