Christopher Bromhead Birdwood, 2nd Baron Birdwood; born May 22, 1899; son of Field Marshal William Riddell Birdwood, 1st Baron Birdwood and Janetta Hope Gonville Bromhead; he gained the rank of officer in 1917 in the service of the King Edward VII's Own Lancers (Probyn's Horse), Indian Army; he was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England; he fought in the First World War, and then in the Waziristan Campaign between 1919-1920 and 1937-1938; he was Aide-de-Camp to Commander-in-Chief, India between 1929 and 1930; he gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the King Edward VII's Own Lancers (Probyn's Horse), Indian Army; he fought in the Second World War; he was invested as a Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1939; he wrote the following books: A History of the Worcestershire Regiment; A Continent Experiments; A Continent Decides; Two Nations and Kashmir; Nuri as Said: a Study in Arab Leadership; he succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Birdwood and to the title of 2nd Baron Birdwood, of Anzac, and of Totnes, co. Devon on May 17, 1951; he died on January 5, 1962)
