Johansen, Bruce E. Encyclopedia of Native American biography, 1997: pages 300-301 (Alexander Lawrence Posey; Chinnubie Harjo; Creek. Born August 3, 1873 near Eufala, Oklahoma. Raised in Creek traditional manner, spoke only Creek until he was twelve. Learned English when he became a student at Bacone Indian University in Oklahoma, from which he graduated in 1895. Elected to House of Warriors from which he resigned in 1901. Became editor of the "Indian Journal" as well as a poet and author. Died May 27, 1908.)
